ADVICE TO YOUNGER SELF

Hello
I am Mary Vollmar and I have worked in the Minneapolis Public Schools since 2014. I have coached volleyball and softball, along with studying nutrition and exercise science and am so excited to put that knowledge into Hindsight Foundation. Working with children and giving them the tools to become young, confident and caring leaders is my passion. This non-profit encompasses that and I truly can't wait to see where it goes. It also hits home because I attended Washburn and love to give back to the community. (in reference to the Washburn Athletic Leadership Academy (WALA).)
ADVICE TO YOUNGER SELF
"Slow down, appreciate things more and really be grateful for all those fun moments. Remember to live in the moment and dwell less in the past and future."
I grew up in Minneapolis and attended Southwest High School. I played rugby and soccer in high school eventually falling in love with rugby enough to move to New Zealand to learn from the game and the culture.. After coming home, I realized how incomplete my life was. I was just running from one distraction to the next. AND I wanted to make a change...
I dove deep into the art and practice of yoga & meditation spending 5+ years teaching and leading. In 2018, I had two influential experiences that shaped my life. The first was a trip to Nairobi, Kenya to teach with Africa Yoga Project where I experience service and compassion in a way that totally changed my life. The other was living on Maui where I studied permaculture, kuleana, nature & surfing. These two experiences helped me discovered more about myself and how I wanted to serve the world.
Studying Ayurveda (Indian life knowledge) lead me to cooking and the want to share organic, plant based food with the world because I think everyone ought to have access to health. I dream of making that a reality while simultaneously revitalizing the earth. We can do this by creating healthy and regenerative systems by combining natural living with compassion, forgiveness, healing and love. Then, just like that, we got a pretty heavenly life that we can share with each other
This is the the knowledge I want to share with the world. My beloved daughter Evelyn has motivated me to live responsibly and love everyone I come into contact with.
ADVICE TO YOUR YOUNGER SELF
When I look back on when I was 10, 15, 20 I wish I had more of this knowledge and awareness. I wish someone was introducing me to these concepts earlier. That is why I am a part of the Hindsight Foundations. I know Bender and this whole team can make a big difference at Washburn, in Minneapolis, and in the world.
